Note for SIH-2018

• What is Hackathon?
Hackathon is typically an event, typically lasting several days where a large number of people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming.
• Smart India Hackathon:
In order to work towards our PM’s vision of a Digital India, MHRD, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Inter Institutional Inclusive Innovation Center (i4C), and Persistent Systems organized Smart India Hackathon 2017, a unique initiative to identify new and disruptive digital technology innovations for solving the challenges faced by our country. The initiative was a huge success. To reiterate the efforts towards our PM’s vision, MHRD, AICTE, i4C, and Persistent Systems is proud to propose the 2nd edition of this initiative – Smart India Hackathon 2018.
Till date, 45+ union ministries and departments and 18 state governments have already joined this grand initiative, making it much bigger than the previous edition. Through this initiative, govt. departments will directly engage with thousands of technical students and challenge them to build digital solutions to improve their efficiency, plug revenue leakages and corruption.
What it does:

• Harnesses creativity & expertise of students
• Sparks institute-level hackathons
• Builds funnel for ‘Startup India’ campaign
• Crowdsources solutions for improving governance and quality of life
• Provides opportunity to citizens to provide innovative solutions to India’s daunting problems

What are the prizes to be won?
Prizes for the top winners under different categories are
• 1st prize – Rs.1,00,000/-
• 1st runner up – Rs.75,000/-
• 2nd runner up – Rs.50,000/-

• What’s new this year?
Along with software edition, AICTE has also introduced hardware edition which would be conducted after software edition.
• Process:
18 problem statements were posed by department of space to which they received 301 submissions.
64 teams are selected across 17 states and 1 union territory, total 378 students (104 girls and 274 boys) and 126 mentors will be working for continuous 36 hrs.
Hackathon will commence at 7:40 am and after inauguration coding will start from 8:25 am, this will run continuously for next 36 hrs.
• Jury:
Jury would be allotted by ISRO. The esteemed scientists of ISRO will conduct 2 training rounds, 1 power mentoring round and 3 evaluation rounds.
